The Istanbul Clustering Conference took place in Istanbul on the 25th – 26th May 2006. It was an event which brought together, distinctive clustering policy advisors, specialists and experts from across the EU. The event was organized by the EU-funded GAP-Entrepreneur Support Centres (GAP-GIDEM), EU-Turkey Business Centres (ABIGEM) and Fashion and Textile Cluster (FTC) projects in collaboration with the Southeastern Anatolia Project Regional Development Administration (GAP RDA), The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporters’ Association (ITKIB)
More than 400 people including policy makers, industrial interest organizations such as chambers and sector associations and practitioners working in regional development or business support organizations from across Turkey, Europe and MEDA region participated in the conference which looked principally at how clustering approach can become more effective for promoting cooperation, innovation, improving competitiveness and become a cornerstone of regional and local economic development.
Conference has been a perfect opportunity to discover the critical role of “clustering” on increasing the international competitiveness of SMEs and its vital role on initiating the network between existing clusters in Europe and potential clusters in Turkey.
The event was a great success in strengthening SMEs in Turkey by discussing the clustering approach from many perspectives, sharing of experience. We believe that the conference initiated partnerships between existing and potential clusters.
We hope that our web page will be beneficial with conference documentation and invaluable presentations of conference speakers.
